This project began when I was working at the college residence. I was told I was being hired for maintenance, having just completed a construction course at the college, Lambton College. But, as it turned out it was just a front desk position, where I sat there with my feet on the desk, and let students into their dorms, if they forgot their keycards. I was supposed to charge them $5 to replace them, and once during my shift I had to walk to all of the storage and maintenance closets and double check there were no leaks, and that nobody was in there. It was a really boring job. I really hated it. And yet, another part of me loved it, because there wasn't much I had to do, and there was a little bit of food I could cook on the barbecues outside, because I was broke and starving. Maybe, if I go back a little further... how did I get there?

I was an I.T. professional, who serviced computers for homes and businesses in a self-employed capacity. I had graduated the business program at Lambton College, and through a couple years of call centre work, and hardware store, I decided to move back in with my parents, get a car at a nobody walks kind of place, and put an ad in the paper for computer repairs. It slowly picked up, I was able to buy my own car, and then another one. I was able to rent a home in the country, where me and my cat hung out, and recorded music. Well, I recorded, he went to the other end of the house. I don't think he liked me music. I wasn't filthy rich, and I wasn't dirt poor. I was able to go to the grocery store and buy what I needed. First, I really didn't want to go that direction. I didn't even want to work on computers. I was more interested in electronics, and thought there must be a way to built guitar effects pedals and synthesizers. But I had a conversation with my dad about it, and he said I really needed to think about doing something that makes money. I knew he was right, so I put all my electronics stuff away, and got into computers. I was working nights at a call centre, 3-11pm, then I'd get home, read a programming book I found at the library, get high, and think about all the cool stuff I could build one day.
